THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CASTLE CORNER (R Simons) was slow into stride. b) SOUTHERN BLAZE (*P Mxoli) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In a race with no early pace, SOUTHERN BLAZE (*P Mxoli) and JACKMAN (J Penny) proved difficult to settle. b) Between the 400m and 300m, CAPTAIN OF GRIT (S Khumalo) was carried out on two occasions by WHISPERS OF WAR (AUS) which rolled out. c) Jockey R Simons the rider of CASTLE CORNER dropped his left-side rein at the 200m which he failed to re-gather. d) Jockey C Habib reported that GOLDEN TUNE changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey S Khumalo reported that CAPTAIN OF GRIT shortened its stride considerably in the concluding stages. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) BEY SUYAY (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
