Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VASILIKOS (*R A Venniker) and STORMY SEAS (R Simons) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) EPIC DREAM (R Munger) became restless, pre-empted the start and nudged the front gate as the start was effected, resulting in the left front gate bouncing back and EPIC DREAM jumping awkwardly with its head up leaving the stalls giving ground to the field. The Board after reviewing the start, was satisfied that this incident was due to EPIC DREAM's racing manners and that it had suffered no impediment or had gained no advantage over the rest of the field b) At approximately the 200m, BRONCO BLITZ (P Strydom) and MESCAL (M van Rensburg) came together and bumped when both attempting to obtain a run between PENDRAGON (K Matsunyane) and SPIELBERG (M Yeni). c) Jockey M Yeni reported that SPIELBERG did not stride out freely and made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Apprentice R A Venniker reported that she felt something amiss with VASILIKOS in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) SAMUEL SALT (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Naude advised (LN). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) EPIC DREAM raced equipped with blinkers (declared 1 October 2022 at 10H34). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SPIELBERG lame right front and abnormal respiratory noise. Veterinary Certificate required prior to racing (Rule 49.7 applies). Specimens collected for analysis. Trainer R Klaasen advised (TL). b) VASILIKOS examined post race, nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
