Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VANDERBILT (*S Sosibo) and ARGO ALLEY (*R A Venniker) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Apprentice S Sosibo, the rider of VANDERBILT, became unbalanced when his right foot made contact with the front gate leaving the stalls. b) Shortly after the start, ARGO ALLEY (*R A Venniker) jumped in and hung in, proving difficult to keep on a straight course for a number of strides. c) Jockey P Strydom did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. Thereafter, Jockey P Strydom reported that KOTINOS did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer R R Magner was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of KOTINOS on return to stables. The Board have adjourned to give this matter further consideration. d) BLOOMINGTON (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (RS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of BLOOMINGTON, Trainer F P Habib could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) KOTINOS examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies. b) VANDERBILT abnormal respiratory noise. SCRATCHED: a) LEOPOLD coughing (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
