Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	SWEET THE SOUND (K Minnie), EKORIA (*S Sosibo) and AFTERNOON TEA (S Khumalo) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	Prior to the running of this race, all the Riders that were engaged to participate in the race were addressed by the Stewards and were advised that there were disproportionate betting patterns regarding this race, between the local and international betting volumes. The Riders were advised that they would be required to ride with sufficient vigour and determination so that there would be no reason for query from the Stewards. The Riders were reminded that although this would be a normal requirement for every race, the unusual international betting volumes on this particular race were sufficient to advise them of the Stewards' concerns.
b)	EKORIA (*S Sosibo) showed a tendency to hang in between the 400m and 250m and thereafter shifted out when under pressure shortly before the finish.
c)	In view of the performance of AFTERNOON TEA (S Khumalo) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this mare.
d)	Jockey R Fourie reported that RED BERRY changed stride continually in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this mare.
e)	Following the running of this race it was brought to the attention of the Stewards that there was a query regarding the weight that was recorded on the scale prior to the winning rider giving his television interview. The Stewards ordered that Jockey L Mxothwa be re-weighed in the weighing room which confirmed that he had carried the correct weight as per his declared-out weight. This matter will be investigated.
f)	Jockey L Mxothwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on PEACH DAIQUIRI. Jockey Mxothwa signed an admission of guilt and was fined R5000.00.
g)	The Stewards considered Mr Mxothwa's recent record regarding contraventions of weighing out overweight and back in overweight and determined that he be restricted to a riding weight of 55.5kg's until such time that he is able to exhibit that he can draw this weight consistently to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
h)	PEACH DAIQUIRI, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM)
i)	EKORIA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
