Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BIG FIVE (S Khumalo), ARCTIC TIME (Wes Marwing), CELTIC RUSH (C Maujean) and US OPEN (R Simons) were slow into stride. b) THERMOPYLAE (P Strydom) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) THERMOPYLAE proved reluctant proceeding to the start and was led by a Handler. Trainer J A Visser was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended (GF). b) At approximately the 1000m, BIG FIVE (S Khumalo) and KIMBOLTON CASTLE (C Zackey) were carried out by DUNGEONS (G Lerena) which commenced to over-race, had difficulty in negotiating the turn and was switched out to avoid running onto the heels of NAMAQUA RED (*S Sosibo). As a consequence of this, BIG FIVE, KIMBOLTON CASTLE and DUNGEONS raced wide into the straight. c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with BIG FIVE in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) SAMTHEWISEMAN (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B B Ruiters advised (DR). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) SAMTHEWISEMAN raced without blinkers (declared 20 October 2022 at 08H48). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BIG FIVE examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) KILBRANNAN SOUND not striding out right front. c) DUNGEONS nasal discharge. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
