Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WICCAN WARRIOR (M Winnaar) was restless in the stalls, caught its right hind leg on the back running board, was taken out, examined by the veterinary surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. b) IMPOSING (C Habib) jumped outwards onto LORD WILLIAM (S Khumalo) which then brushed WE'RE JAMMING (R Fourie) which in turn made contact with the hindquarters of DAVE THE KING (C Orffer). THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) There was a delay to the start of this race due to a technical issue in the Stipendiary Stewards Boardroom. b) Entering the first turn at the 1200m COUNTDOWN (G van Niekerk) was steadied when close to the heels of CHARLES DICKENS (A Domeyer). c) Leaving the 600m LORD WILLIAM (S Khumalo) was eased out of the race. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When interviewed, Jockey S Khumalo told the Stewards that after racing in restricted room leaving the stalls, this gelding had lacked early pace and he found himself racing at the back of the field. LORD WILLIAM (S Khumalo) had then commenced to over race for a short distance leaving the 1200m and then had commenced to give ground to the field from the 800m despite his urgings, giving him the impression that something had gone amiss with this gelding. This was confirmed on the race replay. Jockey S Khumalo further stated this gelding had felt uncomfortable in its action compared to the last three starts in which he had ridden LORD WILLIAM and had faltered on entering the straight. d) Jockey R Fourie reported that WE'RE JAMMING felt uncomfortable in its action. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) CHARLES DICKENS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (SC) f) AT MY COMMAND, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (CvA) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) IMPOSING raced with blinkers (declared 17h37 on 20221021) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) LORD WILLIAM - examined post-race.
