THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SIEGE OF ORLEANS (M Yeni) lost one length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with SIEGE OF ORLEANS in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
b) Jockey A Arries reported that IRON CHEF took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
c) Jockey T Godden signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline (a), in that he mis-used his crop by causing injury to MASTERS BEAUTY as per the Veterinary Surgeon's report. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2500 was imposed. In assessing this matter, the Stewards carefully considered the patrol video of Jockey T Godden's crop use during the Race and established that he had used his crop on 6 occasions without excessive force. In addition, Jockey T Godden's clean record was considered and that there was no evidence of any intent on his part. Nevertheless, the Stewards considered the Veterinary Surgeon's report and the importance of horse welfare and that any injury to a horse in similar circumstances, as reported by the Veterinary Surgeon warrants a sanction.
d) Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse JUST VIRGINIA more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey J Gates struck the horse JUST VIRGINIA, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed.
e) BLAZING ASTUTE (*S Hlengwa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Wright advised (NS).
JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES :

b) QUE FOR YOU Jockey R Khathi weighed out at 55.7kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight.
