Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RAFFLES (G Lerena) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, MERCANTOUR (K de Melo), LAGUNA VERDE (S Khumalo) and EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (*G Pieterse) were buffeted on a number of occasions between TOTAL PROTECTION (R Munger) and RAFFLES (G Lerena) which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. This incident led to EYJAFJALLAJOKULL being squeezed out shortly thereafter. b) From a wide draw, THUNDERSTRUCK (C Habib) was unable to secure a position close to the inside running rail and as a consequence, raced wide and without cover around the turn and into the straight. c) At the 350m, SHOEMAKER (R Fourie) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MERCANTOUR (K de Melo) which rolled out away from RAFFLES (G Lerena) which shifted outwards. Thereafter approaching the 100m, SHOEMAKER attempted to improve position on the inside of ARGO ALLEY (D de Gouveia) and had to be steadied when tightened for galloping room on the outside of ROYAL VICTORY (G van Niekerk) which shifted out away from the crop. Jockey G van Niekerk the rider of ROYAL VICTORY appeared before the Board and was advised to take the necessary measures to keep his mounts on a straight course. d) In view of the performances of THUNDERSTRUCK (C Habib) (betting 6/1, distance 9,50 lengths) and PROPHET (M van Rensburg) (betting 17/2, distance 16,00 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. e) ANFIELDS ROCKET (*K A Brewer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G J Maroun advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) TOTAL PROTECTION raced equipped with blinkers (declared 26 October 2022 at 10H42). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) THUNDERSTRUCK abnormal respiratory noise and fatigued. b) PROPHET examined post race, nothing obvious detected. c) MERCANTOUR scalped right hind. d) ARGO ALLEY fatigued.
