a)	JET MIRAGE (J Mphanya) fly-jumped leaving the stalls, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride.
b)	PHIL'S POWER (T Gould) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	Approaching the 300m ZIG ZAG (M Yeni) was steadied momentarily while improving into a narrow run between KUZNETSOV (C Maujean) and VAR'S BOY (S Khumalo). 
b)	AL QAASIM (*R Venniker) was hanging in from the 200m.
c)	In view of the performance of STAR OF THE SOUTH (R Fourie) (Betting 5/1 ; Distance 6.50) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d)	Jockey T Gould reported that he felt something amiss with PHIL'S POWER, which gave ground to the field quickly in the straight. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e)	SLINGS AND ARROWS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
