THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At approximately the 1800m, TRITON (S Moodley) had to steady when awkwardly placed between CASH CRUSADE (*S Hlengwa) and DIRECT CHARGE (*D B Geethsen) which rolled in. b) At approximately the 400m, THE BUND (*R A Venniker) had to steady and switch in to avoid running onto the heels of LOMBARD STREET (C Dicken) which had come to the end of its run and commenced to hang in. c) Jockey K de Melo reported that KING BAVARIAN choked up in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey M Yeni reported that DUKE OF AFRICA was not striding out and made a respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) In view of the performance of DIRECT CHARGE (*D B Geerthsen) (13.70 lengths and 66/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) THE BUND (*R A Venniker), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
