THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	SHIPS AT SEA (JP van der Merwe) was examined by the course veterinary surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay.
b)	UNCLE GEORGE (E Webber) was unruly behind the stalls and stubborn loading.
c)	MIDNIGHT EAGLE (K Minnie) was unruly and jumped slow, losing one length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	MIDNIGHT EAGLE dislodged Jockey K Minnie without incident while proceeding to the start. MIDNIGHT EAGLE was taken in hand, examined by the course veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.
b)	At the 1100m MIDNIGHT EAGLE (K Minnie) had to be steadied when close to the heels of INTO THE STORM (J Mphanya).
c)	COUP ROYAL (C Maujean) was hanging out in the latter stages.
d)	In view of the performance of MIDNIGHT EAGLE (K Minnie), which raced green and finished tailed off, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e)	Jockey J Mphanya reported that INTO THE STORM did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
f)	Trainer E Kaknis was charged with a contravention of Rule 11.2.8, in that he failed to present DEEP DIVE correctly equipped when presented in the parade ring. Trainer E Kaknis signed an admission of guilt and was given the penalty of a warning.
g)	LORD TENNYSON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
