THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	VARISTOCRACY (K de Melo) stood awkwardly in the stalls.
b)	GEORGIE GEORGE (G Wright) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride.
c)	PERSISTANCE (J Gates) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	PERSISTANCE (J Gates) was hanging in from the 400m.
b)	Shortly before the finish SWIFT ACTION (J Jacobs) rolled in and had to be steadied away from the heels of JURY DUTY (JP van der Merwe).
c)	In view of the performance of CASTLE TIME (K Matsunyane) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d)	In view of the performance of VARISTOCRACY (K de Melo) (Betting 3/1 ; Distance 6.55) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e)	Jockey R Fourie reported that SILVER SCREEN did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
f)	Jockey S Cele was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SEEKING PEACE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Cele signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Cele used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. 
g)	JURY DUTY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised. (SC)
