THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RAIN IN NEWMARKET (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. b) PRETTY BETTY (L Mxothwa) jumped awkwardly. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After a tardy beginning, RAIN IN NEWMARKET (S Khumalo) was directed inwards to race behind runners. In view of the performance, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. b) CAPTAIN'S RANSOM (R Fourie) and CHANSONETTE (G van Niekerk) were hanging out from the 200m. c) Jockey L Mxothwa reported PRETTY BETTY made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) JET FOR TIME (A Andrews) raced prominently in advance of the field and subsequently compounded badly in the straight. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. e) CAPTAIN'S RANSOM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
