THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WHORLY WHORLY (P Strydom) reared in the stalls. b) TWICE THE STORM (K Matsunyane) was slow losing one length. c) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (D De Gouveia) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m, EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (D De Gouveia) was steadied and directed inwards to obtain a clear run. b) Leaving the 200m, Apprentice G Pieterse, the rider of MOVER AND SHAKER, lost his grasp of the right-side rein, which he failed to regather. c) Jockey C Maujean reported that ANGRY WARRIOR made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) FOSTINOVO (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (DR). e) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (D De Gouveia), placed fifth, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen advised (MS).
