Stipes Report

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a) At approximately the 300m, SOVEREIGN SPIRIT (J Mariba) and ANOTHER LEVEL (M Yeni) came together and brushed.
b) When questioned regarding his riding of BON VIVANT, Jockey K de Melo told the Stewards that this filly had never travelled well in the race and at the 600m, he had reason to look down to the left-side of the filly as he was under the impression that there might have been something amiss with her. As he did not see anything amiss, he continued to ride the filly and felt her change stride and exhibit a tendency to hang in from this stage. In light of the Stewards report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine BON VIVANT. Jockey de Melo's explanation was noted.
b) Jockey K Matsunyane reported that CASTLETOWN took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) Apprentice R A Venniker was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that she misused her crop by striking INDLAMU more than twelve times in the entire race. Apprentice Venniker signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed.
When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (14) as well as Apprentice Venniker's recent record with regard to this Rule and Guideline (1).
d) FOREVER MINE (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Ndzilana advised (AH).

JOCKEY CHANGES:

None.

RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:

a) GOODTIME GUY raced with club colours (black and blue). Trainer G H van Zyl was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he did not have available the registered colours of the owner/s of the horse GOODTIME GUY. Trainer van Zyl signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R250.

THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:

a) CASTLETOWN abnormal respiratory noise and fatigued.
b) BARD OF AVON brush wound left front.
c) BON VIVANT coughing.

SCRATCHED:

a) SOUND OF SUMMER insufficient recovery time (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies).
