Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STELLA ET CLAVIS (K Matsunyane) and TONY SOPRANO (C Maujean) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) NORTHERN KING (S Khumalo), MIDNIGHT VERDICT (R Simons) and WIND WATER (G van Niekerk) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Following the running of Race 1, in consultation with the Riders', the track condition was changed from Good to Soft to Soft. This change was made retrospectively. b) Shortly after the start, CALIFORNIA BOY (R Munger), which took an awkward stride, and DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN (C Habib) were squeezed out when awkwardly placed between VAVA VEGAS (R Danielson) and TONY SOPRANO (C Maujean), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) Jockey M Thackeray, the rider of BLYDE RIVER, briefly dropped his right-side rein at approximately the 300m d) Leaving the 200m, WIND WATER (G van Niekerk) was carried in marginally by VAVA VEGAS (R Danielson), which rolled in and was corrected. e) In view of the performance of STELLA ET CLAVIS (K Matsunyane), (distance 10.25 lengths, betting 15/4), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) VAVA VEGAS (R Danielson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Magner advised (AH). When questioned regarding the improved performance of VAVA VEGAS, Trainer R R Magner could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. g) MAZATLAN (D De Gouveia), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) NORTHERN KING was ridden by Jockey S Khumalo (declared 9 December 2022 at 08H34). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) DUNGEONS raced equipped with blinkers (declared 9 December 2022 at 06H12). b) MAZATLAN is a gelding. To be investigated. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) STELLA ET CLAVIS examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN scalp wound right hind.
