THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ALABAMA ANNA (*S Sosibo) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) SUDDEN STAR (M Yeni) and MAY QUEEN (J P van der Merwe) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, ALABAMA ANNA (*S Sosibo), was steadied to avoid the heels of GOLIATH HERON (C Habib), which rolled in. This loss of momentum resulted in ALABAMA ANNA (*S Sosibo) being squeezed out between MAY QUEEN (J P van der Merwe) and RIDGERUNNER (K de Melo). b) At approximately the 900m, ALABAMA ANNA (*S Sosibo) was carried out marginally by SUDDEN STAR (M Yeni), which proved difficult negotiating the latter part of the turn. c) Jockey J P van der Merwe reported that he felt something amiss with MAY QUEEN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. Trainer H E Adamson was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of MAY QUEEN on return to stables d) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with RIDGERUNNER in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
