Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SHORT SHARP SHOCK (JP van der Merwe) was restless in the stalls. b) LOOK FORWARD (*J Solomons) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The start of this race was delayed due to the thirty-minute interval between races. b) Jockey K de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with TUSCANY, which tired quickly in the latter stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) The bit on GIFT FROM HEAVEN (C Offer), which raced awkwardly and was hanging out on the bend, pulled through this filly's mouth, placing Jockey C Orffer at a disadvantage. GIFT FROM HEAVEN (C Offer) gave ground quickly and was not persevered with from the 250m. d) Jockey S Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking BUSY LIZZIE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Veale used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. e) STRAWBERRY LIGHT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (SC) f) BUSY LIZZIE, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
