Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	FLY MY FLAG (L Mxothwa) was stubborn loading.
b)	CAPTAIN MORISCO (K Steyn) and INHERIT THE RAIN (X Ndlovu) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	FLY MY FLAG (L Mxothwa) was hanging in from the 250m and proved difficult to assist. In view of this report, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this mare.
b)	WHAT A WINNER (Y Ramzan) shifted out away from the crop between the 150m and the finish. Jockey Y Ramzan appeared before the Board and was advised to take the necessary corrective measures when his mounts are shifting ground in similar circumstances.
c)	Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guidelines E and M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking GREENLIGHTTOHEAVEN without giving it time to respond and more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was suspended from riding in races for 7 days (07/01/2023 to 13/01/2023 both dates inclusive). In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Khathi used his crop, his recent record, the circumstances surrounding this contravention and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. 
d)	CAPTAIN OUPIE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
