THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STAND BY ME (AUS) (A Mgudlwa) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) RUNNING RIFLES (M Yeni) had to be ridden to keep pace with the field at various stages of the race. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) SAIPAN (M Mjoka) and HIPPOCRATES (S Veale) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) NATIONAL UNITY (D Dillon) was hanging in from the 400m. d) SO SMOOTH (T Godden) was baulked for a clear run between the 400m and the 300m. e) ROY'S COMMAND (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Wright advised (HM).
