Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	HILDELITA (S Khumalo) was stubborn loading, nervous in the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride.
b)	FIRE GLOW (JP van der Merwe) was stubborn loading and slow into stride.
b)	PARIS LASS (L Mxothwa), OJAS (M Mjoka) and BURNT SUGAR (C Maujean) were slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, OJAS (M Mjoka) cast its right front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay.
b)	FIRE GLOW (JP van der Merwe) took an awkward stride leaving the 400m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
c)	When questioned regarding his riding of SUMMER ODYSSEY in the latter stages, Jockey R Fourie told the Stewards that the filly had felt lethargic proceeding to the start and had changed stride on a number of occasions in running. He further stated that the filly had hung in when asked for an effort and had not responded to his urgings when he used the crop. Jockey Fourie was advised that while the Stewards accept that SUMMER ODYSSEY is a juvenile, having her second run, he needs to ensure that he rides his mounts with sufficient vigour and determination so as to leave no room for query. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
d)	HILDELITA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
