THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HIGHEST HONOUR (D Schwarz) jumped inwards sharply leaving the stalls. b) EXHALE (C Maujean) was slow losing two lengths. c) SWING UPON A STAR (G Lerena) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, SWING UPON A STAR (G Lerena) was steadied momentarily to avoid the heels of KARANGETANG (K de Melo), after being carried in by HIGHEST HONOUR (D Schwarz), which jumped inwards sharply leaving the stalls. b) KARANGETANG (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) EXHALE was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (declared 12 January 2023 at 08H31). Trainer J J van Vuuren was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.1.1 in that he declared Jockey J Greyling to ride the horse EXHALE without having obtained his prior consent. Trainer J J van Vuuren signed an Admission of Guilt and a penalty of a Warning was imposed. ` RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) MESCAL raced equipped with blinkers (declared 12 January 2023 at 08H05). b) EXHALE is a gelding (gelded 6 December 2021).
