THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GOLD ENSIGN (M V'Rensburg) turned left as the start was effected and refused to gallop. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 500m, ICE ANGEL (*R A Venniker) broke down and was immediately eased out of the Race. b) IZUIZORIZUAINT (S Moodley) was hanging in, in the concluding stages. c) In view of the Starter's report with regard to GOLD ENSIGN (M V'Rensburg), this gelding's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 16.01.23 to the 22.01.23. GOLD ENSIGN may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer M J Odendaal was advised (SN). d) Trainer C Hewitson was questioned regarding the improved performance of IZUIZORIZUAINT (S Moodley) compared to this gelding's previous run over 1600m. He attributed the improvement shown to having reverted to the shorter distance of 1000m and having fitted IZUIZORIZUAINT with blinkers today. Mr Hewitson has undertaken to race this gelding fitted with blinkers and over sprint distances in its immediate future engagements. This explanation was noted. e) IZUIZORIZUAINT (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Hewitson advised (BB). f) SIRNIHAALLONGSWORD (T Gumede), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
