THE STARTER REPORTED:  
a)	RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa) reared as the start was effected. 
  
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a)	A race review, pertaining to RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa) drawn in stall gate 5, was called into the start of this race.  It was established that this filly reared in the starting stalls as the start was effected. In reviewing this incident, the Board was of the view that RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa) was not impeded by a handler nor by a faulty starting stall and that any distance lost by this filly was as a result of its own behaviour. Therefore, no further action was taken and RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa) was deemed to be a runner. 
b)	After having reared in the starting stalls, Apprentice S Hlengwa's (RIDE THE LIGHTNING) right foot slipped out of the stirrup iron. Thereafter, when attempting to regain his footing, his saddle slipped sideways resulting in him removing his left foot from the stirrup iron at the 900m. Shortly thereafter, RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa) improved onto the heels of PRINCESS JO (K de Melo), clipped the heels of PRINCESS JO (K de Melo) and stumbled. Apprentice S Hlengwa was unable to assist RIDE THE LIGHTNING thereafter.    
c)	LUNA ECLIPSE (*R Venniker) jumped awkwardly leaving the starting stalls. 
d)	In view of the performance of KINGSMEADS KRYSTL (A Mgudlwa) (13.25 lengths, 8/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.  
e)	In view of the Starter's report with regard to RIDE THE LIGHTNING (*S Hlengwa), this filly's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion.  Suspension dates: 19.01.23 to the 25.01.23. RIDE THE LIGHTNING may not be presented for re-passing during this period.  Trainer G Puller was advised. (SN)
f)	MVULAZANA (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W Whitehead advised (NS).
