Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VEGAS GOLD (K de Melo) was nervous in the stalls and stood awkwardly. b) DROGHIERE (L Mxothwa) was fractious in the stalls and thereafter, slow into stride. c) MATSUYAMO (K Minnie) jumped slow, losing one length. d) EUROPEAN SUMMER (R Munger) and CRUZADOR (JP van der Merwe) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 150m VEGAS GOLD (K de Melo) and VARIETY BREEZE (C Maujean) made light contact. A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward, which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Trainer JP Nel, the Trainer of the 2nd placed horse VARIETY BREEZE (C Maujean) against the winner VEGAS GOLD (K de Melo) alleging intimidation and interference leaving the 150m. The Objection Board, after taking evidence from the respective connections of both horses, determined that the incident complained of was as a result of both horses shifting ground and making light contact leaving the 150m. The Stewards further found that VEGAS GOLD (K de Melo) been slightly behind VARIETY BREEZE (C Maujean) for a short distance leading up to this incident and could not be satisfied to the requisite degree that the incident had had a bearing on the result and that VARIETY BREEZE (C Maujean) would have finished ahead of VEGAS GOLD (K de Melo) bar this incident taking place. Consequently, the objection was overruled and the Judges' result allowed to stand. Trainer JP Nel's deposit was refunded. b) VEGAS GOLD, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
