Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	UNIVERSAL (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	DO IT AGAIN (B Fayd'Herbe) over raced in the early stages.
b)	AT the 400m JET DARK (R Fourie), which made its run on the outside running rail shortly after entering the straight, was severely unbalanced when turned inwards after being bumped by ZAPATILLAS (L Mxothwa), which was carried outwards by COUSIN CASEY (G van Niekerk), which was directed outwards shortly after entering the straight. As a consequence, NEXUS (M Yeni), which was racing behind JET DARK (R Fourie) , was shifted inwards to continue its run. Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of COUSIN CASEY he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to JET DARK and ZAPATILLAS at the 400m. Jockey G van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 14 days. (Dates: 01/02/2023 to 14/02/2023)
c)	At the 250m RASCALLION (S Veale), which initially shifted inwards, was carried outwards by MAKE IT SNAPPY (K de Melo), which shifted out sharply under pressure and had to be straightened.
d)	In the concluding stages POMP AND POWER (K Matsunyane), ZAPATILLAS (L Mxothwa) and NEXUS (M Yeni) raced in restricted galloping room on the outside running rail which led to ZAPATILLAS (L Mxothwa) becoming unbalanced when brushed on either side by NEXUS (M Yeni) and POMP AND POWER (K Matsunyane), which was held up and shifted in into clear running.
e)	An Inquiry will be held into Jockey R Fourie's (JET DARK) use of the crop.
f)	An Inquiry will be held into Jockey G Lerena's (KOMMETDIEDING) use of the crop.
g)	JET DARK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (DD)
h)	KOMMETDIEDING, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Rix was advised. (SC)
