Stipes Report
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 1400m, PRAIRIE FALCON (R Simons) and TIMEFORTHAT (*P Mxoli) came together and bumped when awkwardly placed on the inside of DESTINY OF SOULS (C Habib), which shifted in sharply after commencing to over-race. As a consequence of this, BURMESE TIARA (M Yeni), which was also over-racing, had to steady to avoid running onto the heels of PRAIRIE FALCON (R Simons). b) In the concluding stages, DUKE OF RAIN (R Danielson), which shifted in away from the crop, was steadied and corrected outwards to avoid running onto TIMEFORTHAT (*P Mxoli), which was racing in close quarters between DUKE OF RAIN (R Danielson) and SKYFULL (C Maujean). This correction resulted in DUKE OF RAIN (R Danielson) rolling out and brushing THREE STRANDS (M van Rensburg). As a consequence of this, Jockey R Danielson was unable to fully assist DUKE OF RAIN out to the end of the race. c) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that he felt something amiss with THREE STRANDS in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey J R Syster reported that EARL OF CARDIGAN did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) LADY CALAVERA (D Schwarz), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P P Labuschagne advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) TIMEFORTHAT merit rating 61, mass 52kg (winner, Vaal Racecourse 24 January 2022). b) LADY CALAVERA raced with cornell collar (declared 9 January 2023) and with a pressure halter (declared 27 January 2023 at 08H30). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) THREE STRANDS blowing post race. b) EARL OF CARDIGAN examined post race, nothing obvious detected. c) DESTINY OF SOULS not striding out in front; blowing post race; cut into right front. d) DUKE OF RAIN coughing post race. e) LADY CALAVERA abnormal respiratory noise. f) SKYFULL fatigued. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
