THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ESQUEVELLE (R Munger) jumped outwards and MUNCHKIN (S Khumalo) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) EAGLE STRIKE (*D B Geerthsen), LORD VARYS (D De Gouveia), KALAHARI BLUE (K de Melo), PINCH HIT (G Lerena) and RUN FOR COVER (J Mariba) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GOOD QUEEN BESS (GB) (R Fourie) and DANCING DORA (C Maujean) raced freely in the early stages. b) PINCH HIT (G Lerena) and RUN FOR COVER (J Mariba) came together and bumped when awkwardly placed between ESQUEVELLE (R Munger) which jumped outwards and MUNCHKIN (S Khumalo) which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) SMITH AND WESSON (G Pieterse) hung out under pressure in the concluding stages. d) The saddle on THE MAURITIAN (K Matsunyane) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by an Official. e) In view of the performance of THE MAURITIAN (K Matsunyane), (betting 9/2, distance 10,50 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with MUNCHKIN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer M N Houdalakis was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this colt on return to stables. g) Jockey G Lerena reported that PINCH HIT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running.
