THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SIGNIFIER (K Matsunyane) was restless in the stalls. b) WARM WINTER NITE (G Wright) jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) HLUHLUWE (J Solomons) jumped slow, losing one length. d) 'O CAPTAIN (K de Melo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIELD TRIP (D Ashby), which raced green and had to be encouraged from the 800m, ducked in sharply towards the inside running rail approaching the 700m, became severely unbalanced and was immediately straightened. Thereafter, Jockey D Ashby did not persevere with his riding. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) SIGNIFIER (K Matsunyane), which raced green, was hanging in throughout. c) In view of the performance of 'O CAPTAIN (K de Melo) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. d) ICY BLAST, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
