Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JURY DUTY (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length. b) EVERLASTING (L Mxothwa) jumped awkwardly, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 350m SHE'S MY CAPTAIN (R Fourie) was momentarily steadied off the heels of SILVER SALMON (J Jacobs), which rolled in and was immediately straightened. b) Approaching the 300m BLUFF ON BLUFF (A Domeyer) was unable to secure a clear run on the inside running rail and was baulked for a number of strides when tightened for galloping room by WHAT A STATE (G Lerena), which was carried in slightly by ROCK ON TOMMY (D Ashby). c) Leaving the 100m EVERLASTING (L Mxothwa) shifted in sharply when accidentally struck on the head by the crop of Jockey S Veale (WORDSWORTH). Simultaneously, EVERLASTING (L Mxothwa) and ROCK ON TOMMY (D Ashby) were forced to ease when tightened for galloping room between WORDSWORTH (S Veale), which rolled in slightly and BLUFF ON BLUFF (A Domeyer) which, when attempting to obtain a clear run on the outside of WHAT A STATE (G Lerena), was carried out for a number of strides. d) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that he felt something amiss with JURY DUTY. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this mare. e) WHAT A STATE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised.
