THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start for all runners. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Shortly after the start, having being slow into stride, HIGH VELOCITY (*S Hlengwa) made contact with GIAMBATTISTA (A Mgudlwa). Thereafter, GIAMBATTISTA (A Mgudlwa) rolled in brushing HIGH VELOCITY (*S Hlengwa). b) GIAMBATTISTA (A Mgudlwa) over-raced for a short distance in the middle stages. c) At the 1800m, GENTLEMAN'S WAY (T Godden) was brushed out by PARMENION (S Moodley) which commenced to over-race and shifted out off the heels of RUGGER BUGGER (K Matsunyane). Thereafter, GENTLEMAN'S WAY (T Godden) raced wide around the turn and into the straight. d) At the 100m, PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (*R Venniker) rolled in and was steadied off the heels of LAKE COMO (J Gates). e) Apprentice S Hlengwa reported that HIGH VELOCITY took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) WILLIAM RUFUS (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
