THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BACK TO FORMENTERA (+S Myendeki) and SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (+B Mlangeni) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) CROWN PLAZA (+A Feni) and MIX THE MAGIC (+N Ngqwangi) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, CROWN PLAZA (+A Feni) which jumped awkwardly, was bumped out on two occasions by MIX THE MAGIC (+N Ngqwangi) which jumped outwards sharply leaving the stalls. b) In the concluding stages, BLUE METEOR (+T Baase) was carried in by IN THE ETHER (+S Mkhumbuzi) which rolled in from the 200m. c) The saddle on BACK TO FORMENTERA (+S Myendeki) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by an Official. d) In view of the performances of COUNTRY FLAME (+T Ncume) (betting 5/2, distance 6,25 lengths) and COVERMEINSUNSHINE (+E Watkinson) (betting 14/1, distance 7,50 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. e) BLUE METEOR (+T Baase), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (DR). When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for this filly's improved performance, Trainer Matchett explained to the Board that BLUE METEOR had improved with racing and that she had appreciated the additional distance of today's race. f) IN THE ETHER (+S Mkhumbuzi), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Ndzilana acting on behalf of Trainer G J Maroun advised (MS). WORKRIDER CHANGES: a) DESTINY RULES was ridden by Workrider T Mayhew (declared 18 January 2022 at 06H51). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS raced fitted with a compression mask (declared 13 January 2022 at 13H27).
