Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DUSKY ROSE (D Schwarz) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) TURNTHEBEATAROUND (N Klink), BROADLANDS (G Lerena) and COFFEE IN BRAZIL (M van Rensburg) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 400m, BROADLANDS broke down and was eased out of the race by Jockey G Lerena. b) At approximately the 400m, COFFEE IN BRAZIL (M van Rensburg) was carried in sharply by QUEEN BRITANNA (P Strydom), which was directed inwards to avoid BROADLANDS (G Lerena), which had broken down. c) Jockey D Schwarz reported that DUSKY ROSE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) KEEP THE FORT (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Houdalakis advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) KEEP THE FORT raced without cheek pieces (declared 24 April 2023 at 09H16). b) IMPERSONATION raced with a tongue tie on (declared 24 April 2023 at 09H16). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BROADLANDS broke down left front fetlock. Humanely euthanased. Specimens collected for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (ER). b) DUSKY ROSE examined post race, nothing obvious detected. c) IMPERSONATION abnormal respiratory noise. SCRATCHED: a) FLIGHT DE GRACE temperature (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
