THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FRENCH DECLARATION (AUS) (G van Niekerk) and APACHE DREAM (C Bantam), which were racing tight, brushed at the 150m and again at the 50m. b) Jockey L Mxothwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking FYNBOS more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Mxothwa signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Mxothwa's recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey Mxothwa used his crop and the number of strikes (15) over the permissible level. c) FRENCH DECLARATION (AUS), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
