Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a) PROMETTERE (C Orffer) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a) Leaving the 100m GIMME MORE TIME (G van Niekerk) rolled in and brushed INTIMIDATOR (R Fourie).
b) Jockey A Domeyer reported that he felt something amiss with THUNDER MASTER and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) Jockey K de Melo reported that READY OR NOT did not stride out freely in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
d) In view of the performance of KELP FOREST (G Lerena) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) When questioned regarding the improved performance of IMPETUOUS (A Andrews) compared to its previous race on 20/02/2023, Assistant Trainer A Alsop told the Stewards that the Rider on that occasion had reported something amiss with this gelding. On further examination at the stables, nothing obvious was detected but Assistant Trainer Alsop felt that this gelding had benefited from the rest and subsequent gelding. She further told the Stewards that, in her opinion, this horse had over raced in its last start and for this reason she had instructed the Rider not to restrain IMPETUOUS in the early stages and to allow the gelding to use its action. The Stewards reviewed the replay of IMPETUOUS's previous race, which confirmed Assistant Trainer A Alsop's explanation.
f) IMPETUOUS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Alsop, acting on behalf of Trainer VH Marshall, was advised. (EF)
