THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) LONG WHITE CLOUD (IRE) (R Fourie), which was hanging out badly in the straight and proved difficult to assist, shifted out continuously from the 350m despite the efforts of Jockey R Fourie. b) BALLROOM BLISS (G Cheyne) was hanging out from the 400m. c) Jockey K de Melo reported that SYMPHONY OF LIGHT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey A Domeyer was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking DUPLICITY more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Domeyer signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account Jockey Domeyer's recent record in relation to this Rule, the distance over and manner in which Jockey Domeyer used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. e) DUPLICITY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
