THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 1000m, MARDI GRAS (*S Sosibo) was steadied momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of KAYLA'S CHAMP (D Schwarz). b) In view of the performance of CIAN THE CONQUEROR (K Matsunyane), (distance 9,50 lengths, betting 11/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey J P van der Merwe (NORTON SOUND) did not persevere with his riding from the 500m. Thereafter, Jockey J P van der Merwe reported that this gelding did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) ZUZAN (*P Mxoli), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) WILLOW EXPRESS was ridden by Jockey K de Melo (declared 15 May 2023 at 10H14). b) PEWTER SKY was ridden by Jockey J Penny (declared 15 May 2023 at 11H05). c) CIAN THE CONQUEROR was ridden by Jockey K Matsunyane (declared 16 May 2023 at 13H21). d) CALIBRE CREST was ridden by Jockey N Klink (declared 16 May 2023 at 15H47). Jockey G Pieterse was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on the horse CALIBRE CREST, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with Trainer J A Soma, which necessitated a change of Rider.
