Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LONGPATH (C Bantam) was restless in the stalls. b) BIG FELLA (L Mxothwa) stumbled leaving the stalls. c) SPIRIT'S UNITE (A Arries) and APPROACH SHOT (R Fourie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, RAINBOW COLOURS (G van Niekerk) cast its left front shoe on the way to the start, which had to be replaced. b) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that LOGISTICAL, which gave ground to the field from the 800m and was eased out of the race in the straight, choked up in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey A Domeyer reported that RED WILLIAM did not act in the heavy underfoot conditions. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that RAINBOW COLOURS over raced in the early stages and tired quickly when asked for an effort in the straight. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey R Fourie reported that APPROACH SHOT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. f) SPIRIT'S UNITE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer ELP Steyn was advised.
