Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOUBLE OLYMPIC (L Mxothwa) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After considering reports from the Jockeys who rode in Race 1 with regard to the track condition, and in consultation with the course manager, the official going was changed to heavy. b) Trainer SJ Snaith approached the Stewards and sought permission to withdraw CALL TO UNITE (G van Niekerk). His concerns were that this colt would be unsuited to the track conditions, which had been changed to heavy after the running of Race 1. After careful consideration the Stewards, acting in terms of Rule 53.10, acceded to his request and CALL TO UNITE was withdrawn. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised that should he wish to race this colt in similar conditions in future engagements, he will need to seek permission from the Stewards. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that REMEMBER MY NAME made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) DOUBLE OLYMPIC, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised.
