Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BETULA (D De Gouveia) was squeezed out shortly after the start and lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SECRET IDENTITY (G van Niekerk) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) At the 300m, BETULA (D De Gouveia) was directed outwards to continue its run. Shortly after the finish line ORIENTAL BOUQUET (S Veale) which had showed a tendency to shift out marginally from the crop was bumped inwards by BETULA (D De Gouveia) which shifted in suddenly away from the crop. Mr D C Howells, the Trainer of ORIENTAL BOUQUET (S Veale), placed second, lodged an objection against the winner, BETULA (D De Gouveia), on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Objection Board, when assessing the matter, and giving careful consideration to the Patrol Films from the various angles, formed the opinion that this incident had occurred shortly after the finishing line and that the bump which had formed the basis of the objection had not had a bearing on the result of the race. As a result, the objection was over-ruled and the Judges' result was allowed to stand. Trainer Howells' deposit was refunded. c) Apprentice R A Venniker reported that HOT PEARL faltered on at least two occasions in the home straight and she did not persevere with her riding in the closing stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) DIVINE MOONLIGHT (K de Melo) which raced freely in advance of the field gave ground quickly shortly after entering the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) BETULA (D De Gouveia), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S T Pettigrew advised (RvR). f) ORIENTAL BOUQUET (S Veale), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D C Howells advised (JN). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Jockey C Zackey was the rider of THE CHARLESTON (advised 01.07.23/07h29). b) Jockey T Godden was the rider of AFRICAN BEAT (advised 28.06.23/12h40).
