Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:  
a)	SUN BLUSHED (*R A Venniker), IPHIKO (A Mgudlwa), FULL VELOCITY (S Khumalo) and PEARL OF ASIA (C Zackey) lost 1 length.
 
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a)	Leaving the 150m, SWEET PEPPER (M Yeni) was brushed by IPHIKO (A Mgudlwa) which rolled inwards and was subsequently corrected.
b)	Jockey C Soumillon (THUNDERSTRUCK) appeared before the Stewards and was shown the Patrol Film and questioned regarding his crop action with particular reference to the closing stages. Jockey Soumillon (THUNDERSTRUCK) told the Board that his horse had commenced to hang in, was tiring, that he was in restricted galloping room and he had attempted to straighten his horse by showing it the crop. Jockey Soumillon (THUNDERSTRUCK) was advised that the Stewards were concerned that his crop appeared to be close to the head of THUNDERSTRUCK, which is a serious offence in terms of the Rules of racing. He conceded that his crop may have been close to the blinkers that were fitted to this colt but added that he had not made contact with any part of the colt's head. After carefully reviewing the relevant Patrol Film footage, the Stewards informed Jockey Soumillon that they would afford him the benefit of the doubt in this matter due to there being insufficient evidence to sustain a charge against him, but, he should exercise more care in similar circumstances.
c)	GLADATORIAN (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S H Ferrie  advised (RvR).
d)	THUNDERSTRUCK (C Soumillon), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (DD).

JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES :
a)	GOBSMACKED raced with a compression mask (advised 30.06.23/14h05).
