THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WYZEACT (S Khumalo) was slow losing one length. b) CHARGE AHEAD (Wes Marwing) and STORM AHEAD (G Lerena) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) LT ALEXANDER (C Maujean) pulled hard in the early stages when fitted with blinkers for the first time. b) Leaving the 300m, WYZEACT (S Khumalo) hung out and was straightened to avoid making contact with EMPORIUM (*P Mxoli). Thereafter, in the concluding stages, EMPORIUM (*P Mxoli) was carried out marginally by WYZEACT (S Khumalo), which continued to hang out significantly while racing green. c) In view of the performance of POCKET WATCH (D De Gouveia), (distance 6,75 lengths, betting 9/4), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. Trainer S T Pettigrew will be requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of POCKET WATCH on return to stables. d) EMPORIUM (*P Mxoli), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) ANAMERICANINVENICE raced equipped with ear muffs and without a tongue tie (declared 3 July 2023 at 15H50). b) LT ALEXANDER raced equipped with blinkers (declared 3 July 2023 at 16H58). c) STORM AHEAD raced with a tongue tie on (declared 5 July 2023 at 08H11). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) POCKET WATCH examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) LT ALEXANDER scalp wound left hind.
