THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FULLY LOADED (S Khumalo) jumped outwards sharply leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, FULLY LOADED (S Khumalo), which jumped outwards sharply leaving the stalls, and LULU'S BOY (D Schwarz) came together and bumped. b) Jockey J Gates reported that STORM DICTATOR made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) BACK TO BASICS (*P Mxoli), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (MS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of BACK TO BASICS, Trainer P F Matchett explained that in his previous run on 29 June 2023, this colt was slow away, raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and thereafter had tired badly. This was corroborated by the patrol film. In today's race, BACK TO BASICS jumped on terms, settled in running and finished his race off strongly. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) MIX THE MAGIC: Jockey J R Syster weighed out at 52,5kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) IN CAHOOTS raced equipped with blinkers and without cheek pieces (declared 5 July 2023 at 17H25). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) STORM DICTATOR examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) FULLY LOADED coughing post race. c) LULU'S BOY abnormal respiratory noise.
