Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GUISEPPI'S SONG (*B Plaatjies) and FISH EAGLE (C Habib) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Shortly after the start FARLAND (S Veale) was tightened between IM THE BUZZ (D Daniels) and QUIZ MASTER (C Maujean) and then clipped the heels of QUIZ MASTER (D Daniels). Thereafter GIAMBATTISTA (*T Mayhew) clipped the heels of QUIZ MASTER (C Maujean) which rolled out. b) Jockey D Daniels reported that IM THE BUZZ took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey R Khathi (BUSTER KEATON) appeared before the Board with regards to his riding in this race. He explained to the Board that today's race over 1400m was the first time that this horse had raced over a distance further than 1200m for nearly two years, and as a result he was mindful of settling this horse behind runners in the early stages and to finish the race off strongly. He added that BUSTER KEATON races with a short, awkward action and therefore he was of the view that keeping this gelding balanced and building his finishing effort gradually allowed BUSTER KEATON to run his best race. The Board accepted Jockey R Khathi's explanation in the circumstances, however advised Jockey R Khathi that should he ride a horse in a manner that deviates from the norm, he should bring this to the Stewards' attention prior to the race. d) Apprentice B Plaatjies (GUISEPPI'S SONG) completed a satisfactory qualifying ride. e) PORFIRIO (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Naidoo advised (NS).
