Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CRIMSON FOREST (P Mxoli) was restless in the stalls. b) DEE DAY (C Habib), FIRE FIRE (F Herholdt) and RIGHT TURN ON RED (G Lerena) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIRE FIRE (F Herholdt), which was encouraged forward after a tardy start, commenced to over-race from the 1000m. b) ZOOM LADY (J P van der Merwe), which over-raced in the early and middle stages, took an awkward stride at the 1000m. c) SHINE IN MEMPHIS (R Fourie) hung in from the 400m. d) Jockey M Yeni reported that ELUSIVE HUNTER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) FLYING BROOMSTICK (J Gates), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B B Ruiters advised (MS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of FLYING BROOMSTICK, Trainer B B Ruiters explained to the Board that, in his opinion, the drop in distance and the front running tactics adopted in today's race had accounted for the improvement. He further added that, in his opinion, this filly may be best suited to racing at Turffontein Racecourse. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. f) When questioned regarding the improved performance of SHINE IN MEMPHIS, placed second, Trainer E Verdonese was at a loss to explain this filly's poor performance on 27 July 2023, after a promising debut. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) CRIMSON FOREST raced equipped with blinkers (declared 29 August 2023 at 07H42). b) FIRE FIRE raced with club colours (black with a blue cap) Stipes permission. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ELUSIVE HUNTER blowing post race. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
