THE STARTER REPORTED: a) AXEL COLLINS (J Gates) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) BOM BOM (C Maujean) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 100m, when racing in close proximity, SIBERIAN STEEL (C Zackey) was accidentally struck on the underside of the muzzle by the crop of Jockey G Lerena (COVERT OPERATOR). b) WAR QUEEN (M Yeni) hung out from the 200m. Thereafter, Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with WAR QUEEN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Jockey C Habib reported that SUCCESSFUL SECRET did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) COVERT OPERATOR (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren was advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) COVERT OPERATOR raced equipped with ear muffs (declared 7 September 2023 at 08H04). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) WAR QUEEN not striding out right hind. b) SUCCESSFUL SECRET abnormal respiratory noise; not striding out behind. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
