THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RAVENSTHORPE (J Solomons) and STEINBECK (G van Niekerk) were squeezed out between MOUNT PLEASANT (AUS) (C Bantam) and SAN PEDRO (A Arries), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) ROSH KEDESH (C Zackey) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey J Solomons reported that RAVENSTHORPE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) BEERENBERG (R Fourie) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) c) SAN PEDRO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (WM) d) PIROSHKA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
