THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PHANTOM EXPRESS (*R A Venniker) jumped sharply inwards leaving the stalls. b) LIFE LESSON (B Fayd'Herbe), FRENCH DUCHESS (R Fourie) and RAINBOW RIVER (*D B Geerthsen) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) LIFE LESSON (B Fayd'Herbe) bumped its head on the left-side front gate as the start was effected, b) Shortly after the start, GRAPE SHOT (J P van der Merwe) was bumped in by LADY CRUSADE (K Matsunyane), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) In view of the performance of FRENCH DUCHESS (R Fourie), (distance 7,00 lengths, betting 7/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey C Zackey reported that DUCHESS PENELOPE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) GRAPE SHOT (J P van der Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
