THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GOLD JET (M Yeni) and DEAUVILLE (C Bantam) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 300m YZERFONTEIN (K Matsunyane) was carried out marginally by EPIKLEROS (G van Niekerk), which was hanging out, shifted out and had to be straightened. b) Jockey K Matsunyane (YZERFONTEIN) dropped his crop at the 250m. c) Jockey A Andrews reported that 'O CAPTAIN, which shifted both ways away from the crop, felt uncomfortable in its action and he did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) EPIKLEROS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
