THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FLYING FIRST CLASS (C Habib) kicked the back gates in the stalls repeatedly. Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen was advised to reschool this mare prior to her next engagement (GT). b) MONSIEUR CHEVELLE (P Mxoli) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of AFRAAD, misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey J Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R8000 was imposed. b) BREEZE OVER (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis (LK). c) ABSOLUTE VALUE (S Khumalo), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
